Latest Fall Retreat

This is another example of synchronicity at its best. I met Philip Young recently at a completely unrelated business meeting. Who would think a fellow healer from Wales would be amongst them? We got to talking, and realized a great synergy in our work and values. We planned to lead a healing retreat together somewhere in Ontario, but could not find a location to suit.

Within two days, a friend of his who happened to be doing a yoga retreat, suggested we join forces. And this is what resulted: a nearly sold-out yoga healing retreat at the most perfect time to enjoy the fall colours in Ontario, at a beautiful, private, holistic centre (The Lotus Heart Centre) not far from Toronto. This is what happens when you are in the mode of miracles. 🙂

Meditation on Happiness

Recently I had to drive from Canada to the U.S. for over nine hours to meet with some Cincinnati women who were going to Tuscany with us in July. I determined to myself that this would be an adventure, and I would be happy, and do some good while I drive. This may seem like an impossible task but it isn’t!

Let’s compare two apples:

The first apple is worn and a little bruised. It has been sitting too long out on the counter, and bugs are starting to get to it. Everything “bugs” it and it begins to slowly deteriorate. No one wants to eat this apple. Once delicious, it is now fairly useless, but can still be composted.

apple

The second apple is delicious. It has been refrigerated, and lovingly protected. It has been washed and handled carefully. The person who is handling it sees the apple as an extension of the universe and expresses gratitude for it, before taking a nice big bite out of it right to the core. It is fully used up and even the apple is happy to be used!

The first apple is like most people who drive on the highway for long distances or go to work in the morning, or do anything that is perceived to be tedious or difficult. They spend their time eying other drivers or complaining about delays. They may even get into accidents when they become careless or distressed, and swerve the wrong way. Or they may forget to feed themselves or stop for a break, and fall asleep at the wheel. Disaster can strike. This is not a happy scene.

2015-06-05 15.25.57

So instead of starting off on a trek with gloom and doom, with the agony of how long it is going to take, or what is awaiting us on the other side, why don’t we begin our journey like the first apple? Eager to be of service, and delicately and lovingly prepared. With a heart of service, and a feeling of delight to be used. With this kind of care the apple stays in good shape so that it can be eaten at just the right time. And we are always at the right place at the right time, and available for miracles, for happiness, and for joy.

When I am driving I look to the left and the right. I say prayers for everyone, including myself. Let me be of service. And if there is a delay or an issue, or even an accident, I send angels, I surround it with love, including all the people regardless whose mistake it is – even if it is my own!

At the border I got delayed, because of what I do. The man seemed friendly and full of curiosity about me, and so one question led to another until I found myself sitting in a little office off to the side with some other people, wondering what I could say or do differently. Then I remembered something more powerful that cleared the way: God is sending me where I need to be. He has prepared me, taken care of everything, and now I am sitting here resting, and all these people are not in my way – they are here with me. We are all in the same boat. Might as well enjoy it.

Furthermore, the security officer who was making me do all of this was actually caring for me too. As I opened my mind to this possibility, I could hear that very man, who sounded much more authoritative to me in the beginning of my stay there, say to his associate, “All of these people are being helped.” I thought about that: “helped”. He was doing a service too. This softened my heart toward him and I breathed a sigh of relief. He was just doing his job. Before I could pause too long, the man at the counter announced:

“Krista, you are good to go!”

California Santa Maria Day 2 074

Me enjoying a road trip in California in 2011

This is what it means to be happy, even when circumstances are not. We can transform ourselves, and even perceive others differently, affecting circumstances that we will never know, beyond our wildest dreams. We never know who or what our kindness and good thoughts will touch – even if unspoken. Even if we look like we are just sitting there resting, minding our own business. We can have thoughts of love.

Love saves the universe, and it saves time too. And it makes us happy, even when circumstances tell us not to be. We can be careful, we can be safe, but most of all, we can be happy.

Amen.

P.S. By the end of that day, I arrived at my destination well spent, and marvelled at the beauty of the landscape and the palatial house that awaited me. My host greeted me by the door, helped me upstairs, and fed me a beautiful nighttime meal with fresh greens and soothing tea. We laughed and shared stories, and planned for the next wonderful adventures ahead! 🙂

The Story of Grace Part II

Continued from Part I, The Story of Grace.

By the time we got to Grace Cathedral we were electrified with excitement. This was the place Kathleen McGowan had talked about in her book The Source of Miracles. This is the place I had been led to in my wanderings in San Francisco, during the Attitudinal Healing International conference, based on the channelled teachings of Christ in A Course in Miracles.

And I was ready for more miracles…

Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, California.

Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, California.

We entered the Cathedral and experienced the requisite hush of authentically divine places. I could see the labyrinth on the stone floor clearly, just as I had expected, with a small altar in the centre where a female directress with red hair was standing lighting a candle and preparing the offering table for communion.

Labyrinths were known for their mystical and meditative properties, as an ancient tool to walk the path to God or enlightenment (the rose centre, based on the labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France). We stood alongside the edge and waited patiently as she spoke in warm, resonate tones to welcome us.

Angelic music filled the air as Paul nudged me “there is an angel behind us.”  I turned and noticed a young woman seated at a grand piano singing while violinists accompanied her with bows gently strumming in sacred harmonies. We took our seats at the front of the church, and listened to a sermon given by the new minister, Justin, who had arrived just weeks ago from England.

The sermon, ironically but not, was the story of Grace (Mathew 20:1-16), about the workers in the vineyard who were hired to work for a day’s wages; some who came first were paid the same amount as those who arrived last, and complained to the master. But the master’s decision to be generous was not about the worker’s judgement, but his.

The lesson was that God as the master gives fairly and abundantly to all those who seek him. We do not have to suffer and toil to earn his grace. Not to be confused with material compensation, it is receiving more than you thought you were due, which could be the strength or motivation to go on, a friend calling when you least expected it, an unexpected opportunity or blessing bestowed. For me, it was this moment, the signs I was looking for to teach me I was on the right path.

Then I suddenly remembered… The word came into my consciousness and I nudged Linda and Paul and whispered urgently:

“Do you remember the baby at the conference?…. (they nodded). Grace…  And Scott who sang the songs? (Yes…) Scott Grace.”  Then Linda looked puzzled and reminded me of her Aunt who died and visited her in spirit: “Grace! And now here we are at this magnificent Cathedral known as… Grace.”

We all looked at each other in amazement.

After the service and communion we stood at the labyrinth and waited to enter.  The directress then approached me and extended her hand and said, “Don’t I know you?”

I could not think how I could know her, but she reminded me of Kathleen’s book, The Source of Miracles and her Book of Love featuring Mary Magdalene, and the line of holy women with red hair. I smiled and said with a hint of possibility, “Maybe…”

Then I told her about our story of Grace, and how we came to be there. She shook her head in awe and asked us more about what we do and why we came. When we were finished talking, she invited us to walk the labyrinth, and hoped to see us again.

It was getting late and we were the last to walk the labyrinth. The caretaker was growing anxious as we winded the ancient pathways to the centre of the rose. I stood at the rose and prayed. Each pedal a different line of the Lord’s Prayer. Paul extended his arms like wings as we found his way out and back to the beginning. I did not quite finish my walk and was asked to continue outside at the outdoor labyrinth.  Not bothered, we left and thanked him with kindness and left a token of our appreciation.

The outdoor labyrinth and a view of the street, cars still rushing by, and a great hotel.  I closed my eyes and enjoyed my last moments of the walk and thanked God for everything I had received. For moments of Grace, and hope for the future.

Paul asked, “Well, what could possibly top this?!”

Then we spotted the tall elegant InterContinental Mark Hopkins hotel Paul had entered earlier that day, the highest point in San Francisco. We decided, as we stood gleaming at each other, holding hands, to take the next step on our adventure and go, as Paul pronounced:

“To the Top of the Mark!”

I had no idea what other unexplained miracles of healing and joy would await us there and when I would arrive home, as we continue our journey in the conclusion of:

Miracles of Grace – Part III

Tuscany Welcomes & Transforms

This is Part III of Krista’s Tuscany Journey writing series. See also Part I and Part II.

Who can explain the softness and iridescence of roses? The intoxicating smell that lifts you from mundane to angelic? The sound of birds flying and hovering overhead nestling above vine-covered windows awakening you to an eternal summer’s day?

Walk with me awhile and let me explain…

Last year, my mother and I finally arrived at the Mystical Tuscany Retreat after our exhilarating and sometimes weary travels from Rome to Florence and finally to the enchanting villa at La Chiara di Prumiano.  By the time we unpacked and wandered down the thick, ancient worn stairs and opened the back door to the rose garden, we were inundated with new sights and sounds that mesmerized and turned our hearts on to something new…

IMG_0611

Can you imagine walking down that path with me and dipping your nose into your first rose of an early evening sun? The buzz of bees and golden mist over olive branches?  A stone wall to touch and grass to welcome your tired feet home? Can you fathom everywhere you look there is perfection, a garden path with an arched gazebo, an open gate welcoming you to even greater expanse?

20140604_100412

Not to mention the call of others to the supper table, where we pour local organic wine, and survey the bounty that has been delivered by Paul our renowned chef, and Paula and Cinzia our beloved, smiling hostesses?

20140604_194859

Aaahh… I can describe it. But that is not fair. If you have never been to Tuscany, you deserve the right to sample this for yourself. To hear the call of the birds and trees. To walk the sun-speckled path from the villa to the pool. To lounge and dream and laugh. To splash!

20140605_141610

There is so much more to tell you. I couldn’t possibly encapsulate the mystical powers of Sienna, where we dreamed in multi-dimensions, raised consciousness and saw visions, and touched sacred relics that welcomed us back to our beginnings. I couldn’t possibly hint at the majesty of Santa Maria duomo cathedral with its goddesses engraved on the floors, and the stars drawing us to the heavens above. Or the sound of song and light that emanated spontaneously out of our souls as we walked the open-air church of San Galgano… Worlds were reborn.

Back at the villa there was plenty to do. Playful yoga in the morning, gathering in the lobby mid-day to offer our gifts and findings, sharing stories, opening portals for healing and rejuvenation. Everyone was a sister or a brother here. No one was left out. Ancient friends reminisced while new ones gathered by the rose bush. And horse friends beckoned for a ride…

At night we had magical tea parties with Petr, pizza parties by candlelight, and danced in the new with colourful costumes at our magic ball.

I am sorry I failed to describe such ecstasy and happiness. But I will have another chance. Because we are going again!

And this time, I am inviting YOU, my friend.

Come and see, feel, experience and become your true self. Come to Tuscany where you are most welcome to awaken and transform.

You will be in good company! 🙂

Amen.

Pst! If you missed the first two, here they are again: Part I – Tuscany Calls, and Part II – Softness Beckons in Florence.

Softness Beckons in Florence

This is Part II of my Tuscany series…  also read Part I and Part III

When my mother and I ventured on a trip to Tuscany through Rome and then Florence, we really had no idea what to expect. Other than movies, we were really relying on our own senses and each moment to take us there.  Our time in Rome was typically touristy, and so I will not write about it here. By the time we got to Florence we were relieved by the artistic ambience, slower pace and charming architecture. The Lady I will call Florence slowly lured us in and gave us our cue we were truly in a different world…

20140601_155100

In one night we met our group, those we would be travelling with to our Tuscan village. For now, we would be content to walk the cobblestone streets, cross the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge over the Arno river with its dizzying array of jewellery and gifts, and be embraced by Renaissance culture, including live music and spontaneous artwork outside the Uffizi.

My heart slowed down a bit and began to relax, though I had difficulty sleeping that night from all the stimulation. We were preparing for our last and most important leg of the journey… Tuscany at its most fine and pure…

Santari surprises Krista at the Florence bus station

After arranging our tickets and waiting an inordinate amount of time at the bus terminal, I was thrilled to be surprised by one of my favourite global and cosmic friends, Santari Green, who came to assure us that our time in Tuscany would soon be upon us…

Smiles could not express how happy and excited we were to soon be there!

We finally boarded the bus to Barberino Val D’Elsa, near to our villa of La Chiara di Prumiano. My very skin diffused into calm as I watched the hillsides blossom before us and the sun tilt over and into the trees, tall Cypress and olive groves. When I saw the small Madonna and the sign to our new abode, I did not anticipate the feeling. A sense of coming home…

IMG_0607

As we pulled into the lane, my heart would burst. Being welcomed felt like we had been away a long, long time, and had finally returned to our ancient playground and mystical retreat from the world.  After seeing our room and exploring the villa, it was already dinner time.  I could not believe where we were eating outside in the rose garden overlooking the great hills of the estate. The sun made its final visit over the estate wall and called us out to cheer as it turned the roses and stone walls an extraordinary pinkish red, including our elated faces.  I had not expected such explicit uncontainable joy!

Thank you mother Tuscany, and our new Tuscan family! I thought.

We will be coming home again soon.

To be continued…

Tuscany Calls

This is Part I in Krista’s Tuscany Journey writing series. See also Part II and Part III coming soon…

Last year, in the cold of winter, just like this (February), I got a call from a friend who works in a similar field as me: transformation, spirituality, yoga, wellness, creativity. Her name is Cezarina Trone. We had worked together on her radio show, Quantum Creativity, with her co-host Santari Green, where we danced in conversation and delight several times and gave me my start spreading inspiration online. Now, Cezarina was calling for another reason. I had been sitting contemplating my next moves, and feeling the downside of winter upon me, when she mentioned the word….

Tuscany”

Now I had never been anywhere truly European or exotic for that matter. I had travelled quite extensively down south, in the States, Canada, and the UK.  But Italy? That was something other people do. And the image that popped into my mind was, of course, the romantic and beautifully raw Diane Lane, in the movie Under the Tuscan Sun, newly divorced and being coaxed by her all-knowing best friends to take a trip to the Tuscan countryside and begin anew.

And that she did. But me? I had been through my own emotional universe, and was Tuscany my way to the other side of happiness?

Cezarina told me she had written a book, a children’s book, and sent me the link. I didn’t know what to think of it – for one thing, it was so small on the screen, the thumbnail made it hard to read the title. So I enlarged it and there it was…

Krista Caterpillar Goes to Tuscany

My mouth dropped open as I realized what it said….

“Krista Caterpillar Goes to TUSCANY!”

She told me she got a burst of inspiration and knew she had to use my name. Krista Caterpillar goes to Tuscany, and turns into Beatrice Butterfly. That is when I knew.

First, I cried.  Then, I wrote back immediately with a big, fat: “YESS!!”

To be continued….

See Part II and Part III coming soon…
